This stupid thing has been the bane of my existence for too long (and various other updates)

I’ve been having varying degrees of rubbing coming from my front passenger side ever since I got my 19” wheels, even before I lowered my car. Based on my tire sizes, suspension setup, and alignment, this shouldn’t happen. I found the culprit!

In searching the BMW forums, I found that other people getting rubbing at the same corner identified the likeliest source as the plastic vent that snaps into the fender liner behind the oil cooler that’s part of the M Sport package.

My car is at my mechanic’s !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , and since they had to pull the fender liners anyway, they discovered that my oil cooler vent was in fact broken, and sticking out from its normal position. There were some pretty obvious rub marks on it.

The part isn’t available locally, and the car will otherwise be finished by next Monday or Tuesday, so I ordered it and will pop it on myself. They’re throwing out the old busted one.

Next Thursday I’m meeting up with this coding guy who will flash the BMW Performance ECU tune on it along with other little things like making it so I can close my windows and sunroof by holding the lock button on my key fob, making my fog lights come on with my automatic headlights (instead of a physical switch that you can leave in the “on” position so they come on with the headlights, there’s a button which you have to turn on the fog lights separate from the auto headlights, which is stupid if you are an enthusiast of both automatic headlights and foglights) and switching BMW’s super-annoying low fuel warning from 1/4 of a tank to 1/8 of a tank. It’s a 16 gallon tank, I don’t need to be constantly irritated when there are still at least 4 gallons in there! Oh and he’s updating my navigation maps to the 2016 ones.

Another fun thing is, my mechanic told me that when he took off my stock intercooler, it was full of about a gallon of water mixed with a bunch of oil blow-by sludge from the PCV valve. He would have to clean it out real good if it were going back on the car, but I have a fancy VRSF intercooler going on the car, and a Burger Motorsports oil catch can to prevent that nasty PCV blow-by getting in my brand new motor.

I’ve been driving rental cars for almost a month now—thanks, insurance—so it’ll be great to get back in my newly-upgraded car!

How is he going to update the maps? I’ve been wanting to upgrade mine for a while now

I’m not sure the exact mechanism by which he’s doing it, but different coding places do it in different ways, like this .

That’s interesting, I had looked online and didn’t really see anyones that looked that legit, might have to give this a try.

I ended up finding my local coding guy through the Great Lakes regional forum on E90post, you may want to look in there (or M3post) to see if there’s a recommended person in your area.

That’s a very good idea.

Also I know Top Gear Solutions does remote coding, not sure if they do remote updating of navigation but you may want to check with them.

Makes me wonder why you would want to drive with your fog lights constantly on?

I only want them on while my headlights are on. Because they look cool. Probably more of a faux pas in Europe to drive with them on but here in ‘MURRICA nobody is bothered by fog lights being on with headlights. As long as they’re not blinding, and mine definitely aren’t.
